About Library

The college library has kept pace with the expansion and development of the college. From a small collection of Gujarati Books. Catering to the 1st batch of just 158 students, today it has a huge stock of 50,000 books, catering to the needs of more than 8000 students of four mediums - Gujarati, English, Marathi & Hindi. The library has also geared itself successfully to provide reading & reference material to the students of BMS, BCA, and the post graduate courses of M.Com, M.A. (Economics) & M.A. (Hindi). Taking into account the changing needs of students & the patterns of reading material, the library also stocks audio & video cassettes along with CD-ROMS, encyclopedia reference material in the digital form. Library has the aids & equipment for use of this material. A number of computers are provided for students to surf the net and one computer for the faculty.

The library in our college not only provides books & other materials to students and faculty but it also takes proactive steps to make them interested in the library and its treasures by putting up book displays, library tour, orientation lectures by librarian and book exhibitions. The library also provides ILL facility and internet surfing to staff & students.

The computerization of the library started in 1999 and the library started functioning online in 2001. The computerization is supported by bar coding system.

Book Bank

For students coming from lower middle class, purchasing even text books at the higher level of education is a nightmare. Library does provide books but they are more in the nature of reference material. Even when it is a text book, the library cannot lend books throughout the year to students. And students need text book for longer durations. Keeping this in mind, a book bank scheme is running successfully in the college from 1985. By keeping a minimum deposit of Rs. 50/- the student can get books from the book bank. This book she can keep for the entire year and after the exam return the book and claim the deposit money. The scheme receives donations for purchasing books.
